Raul Suarez

President, General Manager Zinio & Naviga Commerce

Raul Suarez joined Naviga in May 2019 after Naviga (Vista Equity) acquired Zinio, where he was General Manager. Raul was co-founder of Zinio International in 2005 and responsible for developing Zinio’s business into all major international markets. Raul worked in the Travel industry  in the early internet years (1994-2002) where he had international management positions with specific focus to developing online commerce. He also was Director at Accesogroup (Rebold), a leading Media Intelligence and Communication company based in Spain. Raul was born in Holland, speaks Dutch, German, Spanish, Portuguese and English, is graduated in Economics and with a post-graduate degree in International Management from Thunderbird. Raul is also Founder & President of the Not-for-Profit Association ACHE for those dealing with rare histiocytic disorders; a Mencia wine producer and a Tech business angel.

Tim Simeonov

Vice President of Software Engineering

Tim Simeonov joined ZINIO in May 2020 as Vice President of Software Engineering to continue the implementation and fulfilment of the ambitious ZINIO technology platform strategy. Tim is an accomplished technology leader with over twenty three years of development and leadership experience, specializing in high volume, highly scalable, distributed systems. He has built and led teams in both large corporate and start up environments. Tim has extensive leadership experience from American software and data companies in strong growth environments, covering automating IT, network, and security operations among others, where he was instrumental in leading and growing the engineering team building flagship products, culminating in the acquisition by private equity funds. Tim holds a B.S. Computer Science degree from Florida Atlantic University. He has received several awards in his career, such as 2013 Technology Award at Local Corporation and 2011 President’s Award with Medco Health Solutions, to name a few.

Miguel Sanz

Director of Business Intelligence

Miguel Sanz joined ZINIO in 2019 as Data & BI Director. Miguel has a long career helping companies identify, manage and exploit their data assets. He has held leading roles in data initiatives at some of the biggest companies in the world – Novartis, Volvo, Sony, Etam among others – in a wide range of sectors and has lived and worked in seven different countries across Europe. Miguel has also advised public organizations like the Barcelona City Council and Bizkaia’s regional tax service in several data initiatives. He also founded two companies in the past. He is a telecommunications engineer and holds an Executive Master in Digital Business Management from ESADE. On a personal level, Miguel loves sailing, reading nonfiction and learning.

Ana Suarez

Director of Production

Ana Suarez joined ZINIO in 2008 and began her current role as Director of Production in 2017. As a proactive and resourceful professional with over ten years of experience in the Digital Publishing and Content Distribution industry, Ana has extensive experience leading and coordinating Production Teams and managing and implementing successful projects for top magazine publishers as well as major publishing distribution platforms. Ana was born in Colombia, holds a graduate degree in Multimedia Arts from Universidad de los Andes, Colombia, has a DEA degree in Design, Image and Technology from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a post-graduate degree in Digital Photography from TAI, Madrid.

Issel Guberna

Director of Software Engineering

Issel Guberna joined ZINIO as Director of Software Engineering for Backend in 2020. Previously, Issel was CTO of a pet supplies online marketplace helping the project to become one of the most important players in Spain. Prior experience includes Tech Leadership roles for one of the most important aggregators and as a Senior Backend Engineer in high traffic start-ups struggling with scalability challenges as well as helping teams grow. Issel loves being out in nature and trekking is her cup of tea, she also enjoys visiting the Pyrenees whenever she has some free time.

David Sheppard

Director of Client Development

David Sheppard joined ZINIO in 2008 starting at its London office before moving to its Barcelona headquarters in 2010. Since 2013 he has led the International Sales, Customer Success and Delivery Teams tasked with establishing new client relationships, growing existing relationships as well as executing the launch of white label products and services. In 2004-2005 he worked for the British Council in France and between 2005-2008 he participated in the JET Programme, operated by The Council of Local Authorities for International Relations, a Japanese Government initiative that brings graduates to Japan to work within the public school system. He is a graduate of the University of York and also holds an Academic Certificate in Business Studies from UCLA.

Jean Zamora

Director of Client Services

Jean Zamora joined ZINIO in New York City in 2016 as a Client Development lead for North America. In her role, she partners with key publishers and is responsible for account growth strategies, acquisition and overall customer success. Jean is known to provide exceptional quality, dedication and white glove service. Jean’s extensive career in Client Relations and her background in Publishing come from a prior Executive Customer Service Account Manager role at Innodata where she was responsible for managing major eBook Publishers and a key contributor to business development and client retention. In her spare time, Jean enjoys traveling, photography and boxing.

Mirela Cialai

Director of Marketing

Mirela Cialai joined ZINIO in 2011, and in her current role as Marketing Director for Zinio’s consumer business she leads an international team of marketing experts focused on engaging magazine readers around the world, and helping them discover the most exciting and inspiring stories. As a recognized expert in mobile marketing, she has been invited to speak at several industry events which led to her nomination for the TOP 50 Women Speakers of 2019 by App Growth Summit, in recognition of her efforts to promote gender equity on mobile / technology conference stages. Prior experience to ZINIO includes marketing positions in e-commerce, finance and other industries. Mirela has a BA in Economics from The West University of Timișoara, one of the five members of the Universitaria Consortium (the group of elite Romanian universities).

Sandra McNicol

Director of Customer Service

Sandra McNicol joined ZINIO in 2014 as Customer Services Director. She is passionate about Customer Support and has over 20 years of international experience in designing, implementing and process improving Customer Service centres within the UK, Poland, The Netherlands and Spain and working in Consultancy (PwC), IT (Compaq), Banking (ABN Amro Bank) and Tourism (GowithOh) sectors. She strongly believes in the service profit chain and that proud employees are key to “delighting” customers and keeping them loyal to a brand. Sandra is Scottish but has lived in Spain for more than 10 years. She enjoys exercising outdoors, she has done a marathon in Amsterdam, completed the Inca trail in Peru and a Triathlon in Barcelona. She is also an adventurous traveller and enjoyed diving in Egypt, hang-gliding in Brazil, Hot Airballooning in Turkey, with her most “unique” experience (so far) being a 10 day trip to Antarctica. 

Kerstin Plenkers

Human Resources Lead

Kerstin Plenkers joined ZINIO in 2016 as lead for Human Resources, setting up the strategic HR agenda and strategy and subsequently implementing and fine-tuning it. She is truly passionate about people and talent development and manages to put those forward while maintaining the essential balance with business and technology needs, too. Originally from Germany, she has lived, studied and worked in her home country as well as in France, the US and now Spain since 2006. This, together with speaking four languages fluently – English, Spanish, French and German, her native language, allow her to approach every endeavour with a unique global mind-set, furthered by her Executive and Life Coach practice – Kerstin is a Coach certified by the International Coaching Federation. Her knowledge and experience cover Consulting, Financial Services and Public Services and extend to the travel and the media industry in European markets as well as in US and Asia. She holds a double degree in Business Management and English language and literature from Mannheim University, including a one-year abroad-scholarship at the University of Connecticut.

Marc Forn

Director of Software Engineering

Marc Forn joined Zinio in May 2016 as Senior Android Developer and during the last 4 years he has evolved from Android Tech Lead to Director of Engineering for Frontend. He holds a degree in Computer Science and Engineering and a master in Security of Information and Communication Technologies (MISTIC). He started his career working for Financial Services companies such as La Caixa and moved on to work for big companies such as Hewlett Packard. He was also part of the team who developed the Mobile World Congress mobile app. In his free time Marc enjoys going biking in nature and swimming in the sea.
